GM cuts funding for apartheid “Survivor”

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

See Breitbart news, GM Withdraws CBS’ ‘Survivor’ Sponsorship,

“General Motors Corp. has decided to end its sponsorship of CBS’ hit series ‘Survivor,’ but the world’s largest automaker said Wednesday that the decision had nothing to do with the reality show’s controversial decision to divide its contestants in the upcoming season by race and ethnicity.

GM spokeswoman Ryndee S. Carney said the company made the decision in the normal course of making its media buys months ago, before the show made its recent announcement.

‘I think it’s just a coincidence. I know it’s not cause and effect,’ Carney said. …”

So why are we hearing about it just now? …In any case, Michigan gets some credibility from one of the “Big Three” refusing to support some racist monstrosity on television…

Foxy Brown can’t make up mind in court

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

See, e.g., Rapper Foxy Brown pleads guilty, then changes mind, from Reuters via China Daily (!),

“U.S. hip-hop artist Foxy Brown pleaded guilty in a New York court on Monday to assaulting two nail salon stylists over a $20 manicure, but later changed her mind and told the judge she was innocent.
The recording star, whose real name is Inga Marchand, pleaded guilty to assaulting the two women in August 2004 by hitting and kicking them in a dispute over payment for a manicure Brown said she never received.
But Brown, who was wearing dark sunglasses and a designer outfit, returned to the Manhattan Criminal Court room a short time after her case had been heard to tell Judge Melissa Jackson that she wanted to change her plea.
“I’m innocent in this case,” the 26-year-old rapper said.
…Brown had appeared in court in December 2005 to plead guilty to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct in a deal with prosecutors that would require her to perform 10 days of community service.
But after balking several times at going through with the proceedings, Brown then stuck her tongue out at the judge and was handcuffed to her seat until she apologized, forcing the case to be adjourned.
…Brown’s 1999 album ‘Chyna Doll’ opened at the top of the Billboard 200, the U.S. pop chart encompassing all styles of music, becoming the first female rap artist to achieve that feat.”

Chyna-China. Maybe that’s one reason the China Daily covered this vital and world-important story…

MCRatzI…still on fall ballot

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

See Freep, Judge refuses to remove civil rights initiative from November ballot,

“A federal judge in Detroit refused Tuesday to remove the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative from the Nov. 7 ballot, even though he said promoters “engaged in systematic voter fraud by telling voters that they were signing a petition supporting affirmative action.”
…U.S. District Judge Arthur Tarnow said he couldn’t remove the proposal from the ballot because the MCRI group targeted all voters without regard to race…
‘Because the Voting Rights Act is not a general anti-voter fraud statute, but rather prohibits practices which result in unequal access to the political process because of race, the Court must conclude that the defendants’ conduct, through unprincipled, did not violate the act,’ Tarnow wrote. …
Tarnow said all voters should be concerned by the MCRI’s conduct. If it passes, he said, it will be “stained by well-documented acts of fraud and deception.”
With the exception of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, Tarnow said Michigan courts, the Board of State Canvassers, secretary of state, attorney general and state Bureau of Elections failed to investigate and take action to prevent the issue from getting on the ballot.
“With the exception of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, the records shows that the state has demonstrated an almost complete institutional indifference to the credible allegations of voter fraud raised by plaintiffs,” Tarnow said. …”

Maybe they could call it the Mendacious Conniving Ratz Initiative.

Daily becomes repository for sexxxy drug ads (updated)

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

See, e.g., the Michigan Daily’s blog The Podium (which I bother to keep on my blogroll!), top post Daily Endorsements, with its current (as of this post) “satanic 66″ comments which are almost entirely ads for Viagra, Levitra, and similar “fun” stuff. Is anyone minding the store?

With all those “come be a nude model” ads the D runs in its Classified section, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though…

(Update: I guess there isn’t Viagra pe se, now that I look back, tho other stuff with “V” is there, of a druggy sort. And lots of body part enlargement pills…
By way, is up to lucky 77 last time I looked, not just 66!!)

UM Regents’ race: who cares? –You should

Friday, August 25th, 2006

(Cross-posted from the front page of Michigan Liberal)

The shocker title is actually to note that I care, though the race has gotten about zero publicity.
None of the 4 Democratic candidates running for U. of Michigan Board of Regents may be terrible, though incumbent Dem regent Kathy White, see, deserves a call-out for the most content-free campaign website I have ever seen. (Not to mention that it starts “State of Michigan is transforming from a traditional manufacturing economy to a knowledge-based economy”, leaving out the beginning “The”; so much for education…)
But see the site for yourself, it says virtually nothing, not even about her own support for affirmative action. Ouch.

Some issues I would like to see some of the 4 Dem candidates I know of (Julia Darlow, Denise Ilitch, Casandra Ulbrich, Kathy White, in alphabetical order) focus on, besides the obvious one of affirmative action, are that

Hitler eatery in India renamed

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

“The owner of a restaurant named after Adolf Hitler said Thursday he will change its name because it angered so many people. Puneet Sablok said he would remove Hitler’s name and the Nazi swastika from billboards and the menu. …”

         Good move.

Black children sent to back of bus

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

See this Louisiana horror story, Black students ordered to give up seats to white children: Status of Red River Parish bus driver is unknown,

“Nine black children attending Red River Elementary School were directed last week to the back of the school bus by a white driver who designated the front seats for white children.

The situation has outraged relatives of the black children who have filed a complaint with school officials.

…The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also is considering filing a formal charge with the U.S. Department of Justice. NAACP District Vice President James Panell, of Shreveport, said he would apprise Justice attorneys of the situation this week. …”

Now you see why we need a Rosa Parks state holiday…..
