Greek tragedy of segregation…reversible?
Thursday, November 30th, 2006        I have thought for years, and mentioned to some people, that the fraternities/sororities at UM (and elsewhere) could use some serious desegregation. Especially with the “legacy” thing, where Winston Worthington Whiteguy IV can be a vile and worthless doofus but still get into Phi Grabba Thigh just because daddy (not to mention HIS daddy, etc.) was in it. Good luck finding blacks in some of those fraternities. (And same for sororities, with note that, too, few whites may be in black “Greek” groups, etc.)
So it was nice today to read that the various “Greek” groups on campus are working on desegregation a little. –I hear Martin Luther King was in Alpha Phi Alpha, so maybe fratern/soror/ities are not always so bad after all…..
