No-no? J. Roberts campaign sign on UM property? (UPDATE)

Here’s my recently-taken (c. half-hour ago, as of c. 8:30 p.m. 8/7/06) photo of a John Roberts campaign sign on UM property, I believe (you can see Regents’ Plaza in the background): I don’t know who put it there, but I mentioned it to UM personnel who said it’s on UM property, and who volunteered to remove it (without my asking for that removal). The sign’s unattended, as opposed to being in a UM student’s room or such; why not just put it on, say, the door of the Michigan Union, if it’s allowed anywhere unattended on UM property?
I am not endorsing Roberts or his opponent for the 1st Ward, and I don’t know if the sign there is legal; but legal or not, should it really be there unattended on what seems to be public–as opposed to private–property? I have serious doubts.

(Update: one does see a lot of signs at polling places on election day, so Roberts may be doing nothing worse than anyone else, if there’s anything bad at all. …But is any sign, of anyone, supposed to be within 100 feet of the doors/walls of a polling place? I’m curious. (I suspect that that rule, if it is a rule, gets ignored a LOT in practice…) Feel free to let me know. Thanks.)
